The winged bean, also known as the goa bean, four-angled bean, four-cornered bean, manila bean, princess bean, cigarrillas, asparagus bean, dragon bean, is a tropical herbaceous legume plant. Growing winged beans are similar in growth habit as well as appearance to the garden variety pole bean. The plant has a vining habit with 3-6 inch long leaves and producing 6-9 inch pods. Four angled ¡°wings¡± run lengthwise to the pods, hence the name. The entire winged bean plant is edible. The leaves, flowers, roots, and bean pods can be eaten cooked It is an annual plant with partially reclining shoots, it grows 20 to 30 centimetres in length. In the summer, the shoots produce gorgeous scarlet flowers that are navicular in shape.
