Apple Small (Pepo) gourds are easy to grow at home in the summer and come in high yields. The small apple-shaped gourds are dark green when fresh and dry to be brown. Seeds can be sown indoors or directly. Plant seeds or seedlings in hills 6" apart to account for tremendous plant growth. Seeds should be sown 12" deep in full sun in the spring. Plants grow to be 18-24" over 100-120 days. Harvest gourds when the stem has browned, or keep gourd on the stem to allow it to dry out fully. These gourds are great for decoration, crafting, and making birdhouses.
